CLEVELAND HANDLING CLASS

TUESDAY NIGHTS:  JUNE 17 THROUGH JULY 22, 2008
6:30 - 7:30 PM  NOVICE CLASS
7:30 - 8:30 PM  INTERMEDIATE CLASS

EACH CLASS IS LIMITED TO 10 HANDLER-DOG TEAMS

PLEASE NOTE:  THE CLASS ROOM IS SMALL. 
THERE WILL BE NO ROOM FOR SPECTATORS.
ALSO THERE ARE NO PUBLIC RESTROOM FACILITIES AVAILABLE.


 

FOUR SESSIONS SCHEDULED FOR 2008
Tuesday nights 7:30 - 8:30 pm on the following dates:

Session 1: January 22 through March 4 (no class Feb 12)

Session 2: April 15 through May 27 (no class May 13)

Session 3: August 5 through Sept 23 (no classes Aug 12 & Sept 9)

Session 4: October 21 through December 2 (no class Nov 11)

Pre-registration is not required, but is recommended.

Handling Class Syllabus 

Learn and understand the basics. Our Conformation classes prepare both the handler and dog to compete successfully in the show ring. Handling is a process of trial and error and a lot of practice!  A conformation class will allow you to work on proper stacking, gaiting and presentation of your dog in the show ring.  Please bring a show lead and your dog’s favorite treat to class. If you do not have a show lead, leads will be available for purchase.

Week 1:  The “5 Second” Stack"
Proper show lead and collar
Control of the Head
Correct foot placement
Showing the bite
The Individual Exam

Week 2:  Gaiting
Proper management of the lead
Correct speeds on the down-and-back and go-around
Different Patterns 

Week 3:  Free Stacking and Baiting
Teaching your dog to pose naturally
Correct use of bait 

Week 4:  Trouble Shooting
Accentuating attributes
Hiding faults
Presenting your dog to his maximum potential 

Week 5:  Getting Ready for the Ring
Ring Procedure
Grooming Tips
Proper Attire 

Week 6:  Graduation!  Mock Dog Show
